Written contributions for The United Nations Human Rights CESCR's draft general comment on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the Environmental Dimension of Sustainable Development are now online - here

If you'd like to read my input: here

In my written contribution, I've identified some key gaps in the draft general comment, some of which are here highlighted:

  1. Older Persons’ rights and agency are omitted [remembering KlimaSeniorinnen v Switzerland at ECtHR].
  2. Children & youth activism can be better highlighted (vulnerabilities are stressed, but not agency). Further, the draft has no mention of “youth”—and their agency—as litigants, negotiators, and activists, among others.
  3. Strengthening women entrepreneurship and care economies for societal resilience and sustainability need to be included
  4. Rising gig economy need more State protection on workers' rights.
  5. Methane emissions and city-level approaches can be integrated under the context of environmental dimension of sustainable development. It needs to have a clear integration with human rights frameworks.

Hoping the publication of the General Comment will look into these 🌱
